Environment & Sustainability

Reducing urban impacts on the natural environment.

About

Environment & Sustainability was an Impact Area under the Foundation's Strategic Plans between 2016-2022.

Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation continues to grant in this space under the current Strategic Plan within the Homelessness & Affordable Housing; Inclusive, Sustainable Economy & Jobs; and Healthy & Climate Resilient Communities Impact Areas.

Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation is focused on reducing adverse urban impacts on the natural environment.

The changing climate, an increasing population, competing land uses and pollution are some of the environmental challenges confronting our community.

In response, we are developing and incubating solutions that ensure an equitable transition to a more sustainable future.

The Foundation's work in Environment & Sustainability spans across the Impact Areas, specifically the following Outcomes:

While 'protected and rehabilitated aquatic eco-systems' is no longer a strategic outcome within the current strategy, the Foundation is supporting Watertrust Australia as on ongoing commitment. Watertrust Australia’s mission is to improve how water and catchment policy decisions are made in Australia. The Foundation’s interest is in healthy and resilient urban waterways.

Our work in the Environment & Sustainability space aligns with these United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals:

1. No Poverty 2. Zero Hunger 6. Clean Water and Sanitation 7. Affordable and clean energy 9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities 12. Responsible Consumption and Production 13. Climate Action 15. Life on Land
